Faculty of Sports Science Congratulates the Minister of Youth and Sports on Being Elected as Chairman of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS)


   Prof. Hany Sa’eed, Dean of Faculty of Sports Science at Tanta University, on his own behalf and on behalf of the vice deans, academic staff, and all affiliates of the faculty, extends his sincere congratulations and best wishes to Prof. Ashraf Sobhy, Professor of Sports Management at the Faculty of Sports Science for Men, Helwan University, and Minister of Youth and Sports, on the occasion of his prestigious election as a Chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS), affiliated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
   This major achievement was announced during the committee’s extraordinary official meeting, held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on December 8th, 2025, in the presence of representatives of the member states of the committee’s elected Executive Bureau.
   This position is considered the highest United Nations role dedicated to sport within the UN system and is responsible for leading the formulation and direction of sports policies at the international level. The committee’s mandates include promoting sport as a tool for sustainable development, supporting inclusion and accessibility in sport, education, and physical education, improving international standards and governmental policies, and coordinating cooperation among member states and international organizations.
   Prof. Hany Sa’eed affirmed that the Minister’s election to this high-ranking position did not come by chance, but rather reflects the intensive efforts exerted by the Egypt in the areas of sport, as well as the implementation of the National Strategy for Youth and Sports (2025–2032), which aims to enhance Egypt’s status and leadership in international sports forums.
   The teamwork of the faculty wishes him continued success and fulfillment in his new duties, in a manner that benefits the sports sector both locally and internationally.
